Thanks for visiting our little museum!!
I met David Perch in the winter of 1994 when I started to date his daughter Allison. I realised as soon as we met that he was one of the most interesting people I have ever known.
The masks below, Hand carved and painted by David himself, are but a small handful of his somewhat massive collection of rare Canadiana. Some of the other prizes in his collage would have to be what was the second largest collection of axes in North America(which he documented in a book but has since been sold), Very large rare Stone Ginger Beer bottle collection and other collectable antique bottles such as the old Schwepps® Ginger Ale bottles with the marble in the neck and others pictured above.
Dave was also an avid hunter and gunsmith. His favorite guns to make were old fashioned black powder rifles, which he spent hundreds of hours making. He much enjoyed working with his hands creating all sorts of different things such as duck decoys, carvings such as masks, models, even cannons. He knew his way around just about any tool you could mention. As a matter of fact, He used deer antlers from some of his hunts to make handles for his favorite tools. He also had created his own collection of hand planes(for making fancy trim, corners etc..) and co-authored two books. One was called "Wooden planes and how to make them", by David G. Perch and Robert S. Lee . The other He co-wrote a little earlier and was called "How To Make Wooden Planes" By David Perch and Leonard Lee
David G. Perch passed away five years ago on February 2nd 1999 after a long bout with illnesses. Allison and I have since moved to my home by the sea, Nova Scotia. Sometimes you can find me sitting by the water with a fire roaring thinking about where he might be now, and when we'll see each other again.
I have learned much about David's life since he passed and I wanted to put more of his works on display so, Allison has agreed to help work on this site to include more information and pictures about her father and his works so if you are interested please check back soon!!
